About Mätarkontroll

Authority built over four decades

Since 1983 we have combined technical excellence with accredited impartiality — that is why Sweden's water, wastewater and energy sector trusts us.

Our mission

We ensure the accuracy of flow meter measurements

"Mätarkontroll i Stockholm AB shall quality-assure measurement values from various types of flow meters, repair and refurbish them for reuse, and supply meters, accessories and spare parts to businesses and municipalities across Sweden."

We work within two business areas: accredited services (inspection and calibration in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025) and the sale of products and services. We see ourselves as a national metering resource and make no distinction between the public and private sectors — everyone needs reliable measurement values.

Our high-volume customers are often municipal water and district heating utilities whose customer billing is based on measurement values that we assure. Our broad expertise — from measurement and error theory to the mechanical and electrical design of meter types — means we regularly lecture on the subject and are engaged as advisers.

Governing documents

Policies and guidelines

Our operations are governed by documented policies — a prerequisite for both accreditation and trust. Here is the essence of each document; complete versions are provided on request.

Quality policy
We shall provide a professional service and carry out inspection and calibration services to a high standard of quality. The customer's best interest shall be our focus, and our role shall be that of a neutral adviser, so that our impartiality and integrity cannot be called into question. Within the scope of its accreditations, the laboratory shall as a minimum meet the requirements of applicable regulations and maintain a high standard compared with others in the industry. The quality management system is a central instrument of control; a quality manager is part of the laboratory's permanent staff and of the management team. Internal audits, management reviews and self-inspections are carried out regularly — quality shall characterise all activities and relationships.
Environmental policy
Mätarkontroll strives to be a role model in the industry. We meet applicable legal requirements and adapt early to new regulations, conserve natural resources and prevent pollution of soil, water and air. We train and involve our employees, impose sustainability requirements on partners and suppliers at every level, avoid environmentally hazardous chemicals, recycle and sort waste — and refurbish rather than scrap. We work proactively with transport companies to reduce the environmental impact of transport and are receptive to customers' environmental views. The ISO 14001 environmental standard is adapted to our management system.
Work environment policy
Systematic work environment management (SAM) is a natural part of our daily work and permeates every decision. We create a fair, safe and stimulating work environment based on participation, equality and respect — victimisation must not occur. Our long-term goal: no one shall suffer ill health or accidents at work. Risks are actively identified, and incidents are recorded, investigated and followed up. Annual workplace exercises and safety inspections are carried out, and employees' health is promoted through wellness activities.
Code of conduct
Ethical rules and sustainable business practices are core values — the code is based on our values, legal requirements and international frameworks such as the UN Global Compact (human rights, labour conditions, the environment and anti-corruption). We apply zero tolerance towards bribery, corruption and money laundering, respect freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining (we have a collective agreement), advocate diversity and accept no discrimination. Suppliers are assessed through code of conduct and REACH questionnaires. The Whistleblower Act is applied — reports are handled confidentially and without reprisals.
Information security policy
The requirements include the accreditations' demands for document control and confidentiality. Information is structured in an information matrix with four types of information and four key factors: accuracy, availability, confidentiality and traceability. Access is governed by roles, changes to documents must be traceable at every step, and a dedicated sub-policy governs the operation of the IT systems.
GDPR & confidentiality
We comply with the GDPR through clear procedures: a lawful basis is established, collection is minimised, unnecessary data is deleted and all employees are trained. In the event of a personal data breach, a designated officer assesses the risk within 24 hours, notification to IMY is made within 72 hours where there is a risk, and those affected are informed immediately where the risk is high — all of which is documented. Customer-related information is access-protected through role-based authorisation, and all employees sign a confidentiality undertaking that also covers trade secrets.
